The hits just keep coming for Rovio. According to Games Industry, Rovio said that when their Angry Birds spinoff title Bad Piggies debuted last week, it quickly rose to the top of the US iTunes App Store chart. How quick? About three hours.
Proving that third time's the charm, Bad Piggies marks the third time for the studio that one of their games has snagged the top spot in such a short amount of time. Prior to Bad Piggies, Rovio's Angry Birds Space and Amazing Alex were THE mobile games to play (though Alex didn't seem to take off quite as well as its avian counterpart. Alex was essentially a rebranding of another game that Rovio had acquired the rights to, Casey's Contraptions). And like Angry Birds, Rovio has plans for its newest game. They're planning to add more levels and content in free updates that should arrive in a few weeks time.
Speaking with Yahoo!, Petri Järvilehto, EVP of Games at Rovio said, "As far as the gameplay goes, Bad Piggies and Angry Birds are complete opposites. Angry Birds smash things up, Bad Piggies build stuff. The pigs are all about making plans and building things, even -- and especially -- when they don't work!"
"We've had a lot of fun creating a totally new and unique gameplay experience," said Järvilehto. "There's so much more to these pigs than what is seen in the Angry Birds games, and Bad Piggies is the first glimpse into what's going on in the imaginative and ingenious minds of the pigs."
