Borderlands 2 Publisher Gearbox Says Borderlands 3 Not In Development

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford recently wrote on his Twitter account that despite the rumors circulating on the Internet, the studios is not currently working on a sequel to last month's hit shooter Borderlands 2. Gamespot reported the tweet.

"Chill out, Internet," Pitchford tweeted. "No one has started working on a sequel to Borderlands 2." He then added, "Clean and simple truth: the only Borderlands-related game development work going on right now is for Borderlands 2."

Even though the sequel is not currently in development, Pitchford tweeted that he "expects that to change at some point, but that is the state of the box at this moment in time." He also tweeted that "It's fun to talk and think, but actual effort is focused on Borderlands 2 DLC, Aliens, etc."

Borderlands 2 released on Sept. 18 for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms. The game is a sequel to 2009's Borderlands and is a space western first-person shooter that also has role-playing elements.

The game offers a "season pass," that cost $30 and will net gamers the four planned add-ons for the new shooter at a discount cost compared to the combined cost of individual DLC purchases. There are more non-season pass DLC planned as well, according to an interview Pitchford did with game site Kotaku.

"We will have other, non-season pass related DLC," Pitchford told Kotaku. "The additional character (Mechromancer) is one kind of example."

He also told the site that all of the DLC would be big and similar to the first game's third expansion, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx.

"The stuff we're planning and working on for the Campaign DLC Season Pass is big DLC stuff - more like Knoxx," Pitchford told the site. "We're extremely far along with the first campaign DLC. The second DLC is also in amazing shape. The third DLC is a little farther out and the fourth DLC is just in the pre-concept stages."
