Tyler Posey, star of "Teen Wolf," recently earned the ire of social media users after his fake coming out post on Snapchat. The "Teen Wolf" actor shared a video on Snapchat on July 30, 2016 alleging that he was gay.
The truth, however, is that the "Teen Wolf" star was straight man and was only poking fun at his fans. In the Snapchat video, Posey, 24, stood at the corner of Gay Street in New York City and told the camera that he was gay.
In the Snapchat video, the "Teen Wolf" actor confessed that he was gay and he never felt more alive. Afterwards, he followed up with another video, which focused on a wall lamp. Posey exclaimed that he was so happy and never felt more like himself than he did at the time. "I'm lamp!" said the actor, who plays Scott McCall in "Teen Wolf."
Initially, Posey was praised by fans for being brave enough to come out. However, they were not as delighted after the "Teen Wolf" star's later revelation that he was not actually gay, and immediately commented on how he was very insensitive with his remarks and Snapchat joke.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that the "Teen Wolf" actor resorted to Twitter to set the record straight and apologize for his statements. Posey wrote that his Snapchat video was supposed to spread love. He added that he was truly sorry to the people whom he offended or by downplaying the major issue of coming out.
The "Teen Wolf" star continued to explain that he was a big proponent of love over hate and standing together during times of division. He clarified that he is not gay, but he has complete support for the LGBTQ community. His recent post was intended to reflect his appreciation.
Entertainment Weekly revealed that in May 2016, Colton Hayes, Posey's former "Teen Wolf" co-star, also admitted that he was gay. The actor shared that when the issue first erupted, he was not yet ready to come out, although he felt that he was letting people down by not coming forward immediately.
