The hit thriller drama will have an additional character in the upcoming season 6. Elizabeth Marvel, known for her role in the show "House Of Cards," has been officially cast to portray the first female president-elect, Elizabeth Keane.
On an article by Deadline, her character will be former junior Senator from New York who is said to be very bright, lively and charming. Marvel also had some recurring roles in other series like "Fargo," "Person of Interest" and "Law and Order."
It has already been announced that the upcoming season of "Homeland" will be set on New York City. It will feature the effects after presidential election, more particularly the passing of power. It will take place between the period of Election Day and the oath taking of the new President of the United States.
Screenwriter and producer Alex Gansa, the producer of the show said in an interview by EW.com stated that this season will have strange period where it is not really clear as to who's in charge, and a new president to be educated on what it really is to be a President in a span of 72 days. He also said that there is going to be a very complicated transfer of power that will be full of anxiety and competing interests
Although the announcement of her role happen at the same time as Hillary Clinton nomination as the first female presidential candidate from a major party. Lead star Claire Danes denied the allegation as it is all fictional and said it's not exactly similar to the nominee.
"Homeland" season 6 will begin shooting in August and will premiere in January 2017 on Showtime.
