The 2100 Shot Tribute to Snake and Metal Gear Solid

I can't say I'm adverse to getting a bit loaded; swacked, zonked, or as one of my friends once put it, "anomolated." He was a bit into his cups at the time as well. The majority of the writing I do on this site is done from my "office," which is essentially a bar, as you can see.

Note the Superman cape for added class...

On this side, I destroy my liver, and on the opposite side, I destroy my eyesight playing my lovely videogames. It's truly a hard life that I lead.

Having the same amount of affection that I do for both alcohol and videogames, London's Loading Bar decided to do honor one of gaming's most celebrated franchises. For those of you unaware of just what the Loading Bar is, it's a place to unwind with some adult beverages, and play games that where once originally marketed towards children. Like a much cooler Chuck E. Cheese, really.

As I'm sure most of you are aware, this year marks the 25th anniversary of Metal Gear. So, in honor of the title, the folks at the Loading Bar took it upon themselves to create a bit of a tribute to the game's hero, the legendary Solid Snake. What you see below is a mashup of Snakes, young and old, and made up of approximately 2100 shot glasses.

Yes, there is a Liquid Snake pun to be found somewhere here...

The Loading Bar commissioned a designer and MGS fan by the name of Joseph Payne to create a scale dot image, which the team then recreated in about 12 hours. A print was then presented to Metal Gear Solid game designer Hideo Kojima, who plans to put it in his office. Maybe he's not much of a drinker.

On giving the artwork to Kojima, Loading's own Big Boss James Dance said:

"Whenever Hideo Kojima visits countries I'm sure he gets showered with gifts relevant to the culture so we thought we'd do our bit for upholding the stereotype of England being a nation of drinkers and create this liquid tribute to Snake."

If you have a lot of time and spare shot glasses lying around, and you want to recreate the image yourself, you can find the original artwork here.
