"Dark Souls 3" fans have really come out in full force, as the game has emerged as the clear bestseller in its native Japan so far this year (at least, for the PlayStation 4).
PlayStation Lifestyle reports that Famitsu published a new list that tallies the chart from December 2015 to last June. "Dark Souls 3" tops the list for the PlayStation 4 with a figure of 313,000. It's actually only fifth on the list. It comes as no surprise, considering it's a popular title that was released a couple of months before the counting ended—were it extended a little longer, it might have been at a higher spot.
Ahead of "Dark Souls 3" are all 3DS games: "Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3" with 609,603 copies sold, "Yo-kai Sangokushi" with 539,181 copies, "Monster Hunter Cross" with 345,656, and "Kirby: Planet Robobot" with "330,809." The next PlayStation 4 title, "Dragon Quest Heroes II," is a few numbers down. The list, however, doesn't take into account all digital downloads, which may explain why the game didn't rank as high as expected (and why the figures seem low in general).
In other "Dark Souls 3" news, YouTube user Limit Breakers modded the game and replaced its textures with various memes, at the request of the internet. You can check out the bizarre "Dark Souls 3" mod here on Game Zone, complete with video. Another user recreated the first "Dark Souls" opening area in "LittleBigPlanet 3," which you can see here in Polygon.
"Dark Souls 3" was released in Japan on March 24 earlier this year, while the rest of the world got it on April 12. The game's next expansion DLC may be releasing by the end of August, but players can expect only two sets of DLC for the game before developer From Software and publisher Bandai Namco move on from the series.
