An initial glimpse into "Justice League Dark" was recently given by Warner Bros. Animation. The new video presented a number of characters in the main group. A trailer and short behind-the-scenes featurette was provided, confirming some of the rumored characters who will appear in "Justice League Dark."
Io9 reported that the animated film will feature John Constantine (voiced by Matt Ryan), EtriganThe Demon/Jason Blood (Ray Chase), Black Orchid, Zatanna (Camilla Luddington), Swamp Thing and Deadman (Nicholas Turturro) in the main team. The members of the traditional Justice League will also be present, namely Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, who were all showcased briefly in the "Justice League Dark" video. According to SuperHeroHype, Jason O'Mara will voice Batman. "Justice League Dark" will also include supporting characters, although Batman is poised to have a major role in introducing some of the DC magical characters.
Collider writes that the "Justice League Dark" featurette presented the story through Batman's perspective. He is skeptical of magic, although it is clear that it is happening around him. It is obvious that Batman will need the aid of the magical characters of Justice League Dark to battle new type of enemies. Although the classic Justice League will be included in "Justice League Dark," more emphasis will be given to the new line of heroes.
The featurette also included interviews with the cast and crew members. Matt Ryan mentioned that he really wanted to join the project and play Constantine in a different context around some of the iconic characters who are present in the DC Justice League Dark world. The initial footage is apparently incomplete and makes use of storyboard art to fill in the gaps.
"Justice League Dark" debuted when DC Comics started The New 52 publishing project in 2011. The group, which sways more into the paranormal, also features other characters like Frankenstein, Madame Xanadu and Phantom Stranger. A "Justice League Dark" feature film has been in development for a while, although the project has been very quiet in the past several months.
Although there were previous rumors of a live-action "Justice League Dark" film, it seems that DC and Warner Bros. ultimately decided to keep it in animated form. Nevertheless, fans should expect exciting interplay and battles among the unique characters. "Justice League Dark" is set to launch in fall 2016, available on DVD, digital and Blu-ray. More updates and details are expected soon.
