Halo 4 Release Date: The Flood Return

He rises out of the frosted ashes of cryo-stasis. He is the last of an extinct race of demigods and he battles among ordinary soldiers. He flexed his limbs and stands nearly two-and-a-half meters tall. His body is encased in pearlescent green battle armor. He is faceless, his mirrored visor reflecting friend and enemy alike.

The battle has already begun; the fungal zombies are overwhelming the space marines. The creatures are composed of the corpses and bodies of former combatants, human and Covenant alike. Master Chief pulled out his Assault Rifle and moved towards the fray. The damn Flood is back.

The alien parasites will be returning in Halo 4, but only in a limited capacity, according to a report by CVG. It appears as if the fungal zombies will be part of a single player game mode, appropriately labeled "Flood," which is much like the Infection gametype from previous Halo titles.

According to CVG, "the mode supports 10 players, with two starting off as feral infected on a mission to spread their dirty disease to the rest of the players."

The Flood are parasitic alien life forms that have acted as the secondary enemies through out the original Halo trilogy. The have a desire to infect any form of sentient life they come in contact with and were consider the greatest threat to the galaxy by the ancient alien race of the Forerunners.

The Forerunners killed themselves and all other sentient life nearly 100,000 years ago in an effort to starve the Flood to death. Sergeant Avery Johnson was able to escape the infection of the Flood, immediately due to a pre-existing medical condition. He is immune to the virus.

Every since Halo 2 the Flood have been seen as an annoying enemy and were considered by critics too imitative of other sci-fi stereotypes. IGN describe the Flood as "one of the most hated video game villains in the history of video games."

Halo development director Frank O'Connor has recently confirmed that the game is done and has been sent to Microsoft for certification. Halo 4 will release worldwide on Nov. 6 with the exclusion of Japan where the game will be released on Nov. 8. Read more about the Halo franchise here.
