Batman: Arkham Unhinged Gets New Writer

"Criminals are a superstitious cowardly lot," Bruce Wayne said, "so my disguise must be able to strike terror into their hearts. I must be a creature of the night, black, terrible..."

It appears the nighttime vigilante has found a new writer to scribe his next comic book. Karen Traviss will be taking over the writing duties for Batman: Arkham Unhinged, the weekly digital-first DC comic set in the world of Batman: Arkham City.

Traviss has written numerous novels using existing intellectual properties including "Star Wars," "Gears of Wars" and "Halo." Traviss worked as both a journalist and defense correspondent before turning her attention to writing fiction. She was also the writer of the video game Gears of War 3. She recently sat down with IGN to discuss all things Batman comics related.

"It's a whole new storyline, but obviously still within the Arkham canon and timeline," Traviss told IGN. "It's all set between the first and second game. Basically, what happens in Gotham while all this Arkham malarkey is going on? How do the citizens, the police, the staff at city hall, react to all this? Because it's going to upset an awful lot of people."

She also mentioned in the interview that she finds dealing with the corrupt politics of Gotham's government and how much she enjoyed writing Jim Gordon.

"You've got a pretty dodgy City Hall at work in Gotham, and I spent far more years than I ever want to remember working for politicians on that level," Traviss said. "And then there's the police response to all this. Yes, I worked for the cops for a while, too. So I'm not exactly adrift from familiar territory in this, despite the lack of military content. It's hugely enjoyable writing Jim Gordon, I admit. I've tried to look at his stuff from a copper's perspective. He asks the questions an actual cop would ask."
