"Supernatural" Season 12 is currently in development. Recent updates revealed that Rick Springfield has been slated to take on the role of the new Lucifer for several "Supernatural" episodes.
In Season 11, Lucifer took possession of Castiel's (Misha Collins) body. For the upcoming "Supernatural" Season 12, the fallen angel will be trying a number of new vessels.
Executive producer Robert Singer shared at San Diego Comic-Con that Lucifer will be looking for a very strong vessel like Castiel or Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki).
Variety revealed that "Supernatural" executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb were at the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which was moderated by Richard Speight Jr. and Rob Benedict.
Speight announced that Rick Springfield will be the new Satan in "Supernatural." Dabb continued that they wanted a real rock star to play the washed-up Vince Vicente.
According to TVLine, Singer said that Rick Springfield will be the first vessel that Lucifer will feel comfortable with in "Supernatural." Springfield is an 80's rock star and former soap opera star who is currently making a comeback.
The musician is most likely best known for his #1 hit song "Jessie's Girl." Springfield is also notable for playing Dr. Noah Drake on "General Hospital." The actor and singer has appeared in other TV shows through the years as well.
Considering Rickfield's experience on TV, he seems to be a good candidate to take the reins from Pellegrino on "Supernatural" for a while. Fans may even find Lucifer singing a few lines as he enjoys his new body.
ScreenRant stated that although "Supernatural" is one of the oldest running shows on The CW, there will expectedly be more adventures for brothers Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam Winchester.
Through the years, "Supernatural" has dealt with various types of demons, including Satan or Lucifer himself. The evil character first debuted in "Supernatural" in Season 5. Traditionally, Mark Pellegrino took on the role of Lucifer, or his human vessel.
The villain was a major character in the fifth and sixth season, and then went on a hiatus before returning in "Supernatural" Season 11.
Pellegrino still played the role until Satan decided to possess the body of Castiel. After the demon was removed from Castiel's body, Lucifer is again on the lookout for a new host in "Supernatural" Season 12.
"Supernatural" Season 12 is set to launch on Oct. 13, 2016 on The CW. More updates and details are expected soon.
