The Marvel Cup O'Joe panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2016 announced a grand X-Men vs. Inhumans battle in comic form. The event, which will be titled "Inhumans vs. X-Men," will consist of six issues.
"Inhumans vs. X-Men" is written by Jeff Lemire and Charles Soule while the art is by Leinil Yu. The story will reportedly take the growing rift between the Inhumans and mutants to a peak as the series develops.
ComicBook wrote that Cyclops made the first move in "Death of X," but the impending extinction of all mutants in the Inhumans vs. X-Men story require all of them to work together and fight back the looming threat brought by the rise of Inhumans.
To ensure their survival in "Inhumans vs. X-Men," mutants have to determine how they can destroy the Terrigen Mists permanently. They also expect the Inhumans to do everything to keep them from ruining the mists, which will also mean their own extinction.
The Inhuman royal family summons Inhumans from across the Marvel universe to aid them in battling the mutants. Special characters like Moon Girl, Quake and Ms. Marvel, among others, will be joining the Inhumans vs. X-Men war.
The cover art by Leinil Yu for "Inhumans vs. X-Men #1" has recently been presented, showing the mutants on one side and the Inhumans on the other, about to engage in an epic clash.
Some of the notable mutants in the cover art include Magneto, Storm, Wolverine and Psylocke, among others.
IGN stated that Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso, VP of International Development C.B. Cebulski, writers Jason Aaron, Kieron Gillen and Nick Spencer, Director of Content & Character Development Sana Amanat and Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb were all available at the Marvel Cup O'Joe panel.
Quesada urged Loeb to announce the teaser trailer for the future mutant show, "Legion," on FX. Axel Alonso announced the Inhumans vs. X-Men comic.
Alonso said that in the Inhumans vs. X-Men plot, there is natural antagonism between the two factions. There are two species at war and maybe only one can win.
The Terrigen Mists is a biological gas that triggers latent Inhuman genes among humans that it gets in contact with, causing those affected to transform into Inhumans.
Mutants who are exposed to the mists are poisoned, suffer from a deadly disease or sterilized.
"Inhumans vs. X-Men" is set to launch in winter 2016. More updates and details on the Inhumans vs. X-Men story are expected soon.
