‘Bates Motel’ Season 5 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Rihanna Portrays ‘Marion Crane’ Capping Final Season

“Bates Motel” will be airing its final season in 2017 and the producers may want to end the series with a bang.

The series, something made to serve as a prequel to the actual events before “Psycho”, has been narrating the uncanny relationship of “Norman Bates” (Freddie Highmore) and his mother “Norma” (Vera Farmiga).

Season 4 of “Bates Motel” recently wrapped up with the death of a main character. Heading into season 5, an unlikely celebrity has been added to play the role of “Marion Crane” – pop star Rihanna, THR reported.

The revelation was made at Comic-Con International in San Diego which should serve as a fitting finale to the prequel. Rihanna will try her part in reprising the role that was originally done by Janet Leigh.

“We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.”

Prequel establishes “Psycho” plot

Through the four seasons of “Bates Motel”, it goes without saying that the story behind the motel may have been covered amply. It somehow explains the twisted mother and son relationship of Norma and Norman Bates which have somehow aligned with the actual “Psycho” film per Screen Rant.

Season 4 of “Bates Motel” has moved the climax closer to the movie so Rihanna’s entry is seen as the icing on the cake. Season 5 promises to sink in the missing information producers want the fans to know and there is perhaps no better way than to lead it into that famous shower scream that Leigh has made popular to date.

“Bates Motel” will return in 2017 for its final season on A&E, capping an informative run for the ones familiar with the “Psycho” film.
