The Boston Celtics are far from don targeting additional NBA players and one on the list may be Philadelphia 76ers Jahlil Okafor. The Sixers are loaded in the forward position and general manager Bryan Colangelo is expected to entertain offers for Okafor or even perhaps Nerlens Noel.
As everyone knows by now, the Celtics already struck it big with Al Horford. But with $15 million of salary cap space still available, president Danny Ainge can still target other big names.
Promising but distracted
Okafor showed a lot of promise prior to his entry last year. Considered a top pick, he ended up going 3rd behind Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota Timberwolves) and D’Angelo Russell (Los Angeles Lakers).
His off-court woes have become a concern and believed to be something that could hinder a possible move to Bean Town. Ironically, one of those incidents happened at a bar in Boston back in November, TMZ reported.
That incident spilled a whole can of worms, providing a dark side that the Celtics don’t really take lightly. Delonte West was singled out by Philly.com as a promising player for the Celtics before but his off-court issues were simply too hard to handle.
Word came out that West had hit rock-bottom following a sighting over in Maryland. While the photo seemed to show that he was begging for change, his mother (Delphina Addison) explained that such is not the case. His mother however bares that his son is working on a possible NBA comeback in a most recent report from TMZ.
As for the case of Okafor, there is a chance he could still be a Celtic. The problem is that Boston is not willing to spend that much to get him. The Sixers want something credible in return and it may be more than just future draft picks.
With that on the table, any trade involving the Celtics and the Sixers for Okafor may not happen for now.
