Raiden's come a long way from his debut in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Now more machine than man, he's gone from a a cart wheeling androgynous replacement for Solid Snake to a virtual grim reaper that can make french fries four different ways. As was hinted before, we also get a glimpse at just who Raiden will be going up against. Check the trailer below!
Yeah, this definitely isn't a stealth game.
Now, as for the new faces. They're all employees of Desperado Enforcement LLC, another PMC with a less than savory reputation for providing help to terrorists and international criminals.
First up, we have Sundowner, Desperado's unofficial leader. You'll recognize him as the baldy aboard the train. Don't ask what's under the trench coat.
Next, looking very Sheeva-esque and sporting a very large bladestaff is Mistral.
Finally, seemingly defying physics (as if that's something new to Metal Gear) is Monsoon.
Rising sees Metal Gear's resident cyborg Raiden slice n' dice through metal as well as men. Set nine years after Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Raiden has since gone to work for the private military and security company, Maverick Security Consulting Inc. It's during his work with Maverick that he'll be encountering these new and formidable foes.
Though there will be some stealth elements, what Rising's creative producer, Shigenobu Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth," Metal Gear Rising is all about the action. Armed with a high frequency blade that can cut through steel like a hot knife through butter, players use a sophisticated cutting system to command Raiden to hack n' slash through hordes of enemies.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is out for PS3 and XBox 360 (though not in Japan), February 21.
