The third "Star Wars Rebels" season is currently in development. A major part of the prequel period will allegedly feature an encounter with the Rebels and battle droids are rumored to arrive soon.
Dave Filoni, co-creator and executive producer of "Star Wars Rebels," provided some insight about the Battle Droids at Star Wars Celebration in London.
Filoni told IGN that there several funny things about the Battle Droids in the "Star Wars Rebels" animated series. He said that they are actually a lot better compared to the ones that they featured in the Clone Wars series.
Filoni explained that the Battle Droids were an asset in the first season. Due to their nature, they did not spend much time fixing the robots and improving their appearance, although other aspects of "Star Wars Rebels" were enhanced.
Filoni continued that not a lot of people, aside from Matt Wood, cared about the Battle Droids, so they do not expect many to notice the upgrade as well.
In terms of the Rebels, Kilian Plunkett made a closer observation and they decided not to overstylize them differently.
This meant maintaining the true head shape, similar to the original Battle Droids concept by Doug Chiang. He said that they were pleased with the version that will appear in "Star Wars Rebels."
The co-creator did not specify the reason and manner of the appearance of Battle Droids in "Star Wars Rebels" Season 3, but he shared that they are somewhat moving through the path that they had in the previous season.
They are delving into some Clone War elements and developing these thoroughly. Filoni said that an episode about the final battle of the Clone Wars which feature the Battle Droids and the "Star Wars Rebels" characters. It was an important story for Ezra and "Star Wars Rebels" fans will see why soon.
Filoni also shared on Coming Soon that he admired having the capacity to use elements to bridge the gap between various "Star Wars Rebels" generations.
He said that it was a great opportunity to put these "Star Wars Rebels" features in the same space as classic Star Wars elements.
There were a lot of revelations in the process because there used to be very few stories on how the prequels and classic trilogy crossed over.
The appearance of the Battle Droids in "Star Wars Rebels" is just as significant as the meeting of characters from the prequel era and classic trilogy.
"Star Wars Rebels" Season 3 will launch in fall 2016.
