The highly anticipated sequel to the 2015 hit "Jurassic World" starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard has begun production.
The 2015 film, which became the second highest-grossing film of the year just behind Disney's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," was directed by Colin Trevorrow, with a screenplay by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Derek Connolly. Trevorrow is returning to write "Jurassic World 2" alongside Connolly, while Juan Antonio Bayona is set to direct.
Great news for fans who cannot wait for the release of "Jurassic World 2," as production is moving forward. Collider reports that the movie will begin filming in Hawaii on February 27, 2017 under the production title "Ancient Futures."
If the name is any indication, will dinosaurs finally co-exist with humans in a peaceful way in the sequel? producer Frank Marshall has already expressed his thoughts about not reusing the "humans-running-from-dinosaurs" format that have been evident in the past films.
Marshall said that the film is currently in pre-production and he had just returned from London to meet with Bayona and the production team. He shared that they are working other storyboards, calling it a "full-boar" pre-production that will begin filming in Spring 2017. Marshall explained that while Bayona is inserting his own ideas into the mix, the story remains to be the original one that Trevorrow and Connolly had written.
"We set the bar pretty high. For me, it’s always about story," Marshall explained. "I think we’re just having to look and see how we can involve the characters in the story with whatever dinosaurs we have in the action sequences. It’s a challenge, but it’s a healthy challenge."
"Jurassic World 2" is set to hit theaters on June 22, 2018, with returning stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Ty Simpkins.
