'Stranger Things' Season 2 Updates: Netflix Showrunners To Go Deeper Into The 'Upside Down'; Want The Storyline To Feel 'Unsafe'

Plans for "Stranger Things" Season 2 are currently in the works. The Netflix showrunners recently provided some details on what the new Stranger Things season may have in store for fans.

According to twin creators Matt and Ross Duffer, the potential "Stranger Things" second season may be more of a sequel than a continuation of the events in Season 1.

Ross Duffer told Variety that only a number of their ideas for "Upside Down" and its monster were actually shown. Ross explained how they love the idea that the Upside Down is an environment that is not a great place for humans to live in.

Will's (Noah Schnapp) time there resulted to some emotional and physical effects on him. He may have gotten out of the scary place, but there are still questions whether he has truly escaped the ordeal. Ross continued that they wanted to delve deeper into Upside Down in the Stranger Things second season.

Matt Duffer said that in the first "Stranger Things" episode, they wanted someone to die immediately. Benny (Chris Sullivan) had to be the guy who showed potential development but ended up getting killed off.

Barbara (Shannon Purser) was the next to show promise but fans already felt unsafe about everyone. It was the kind of feeling that the showrunners wanted the Stranger Things audience to have.

Matt added that they love television because it does not follow a pattern, which many movies tend to do. He compared the feeling of being unsafe in "Stranger Things" with the tension that Game of Thrones viewers have with each episode.

The "Stranger Things" showrunners also shared how it was an exciting experience for them to create the monster and put it on screen. They worked with concept artist Aaron Sims and told him about their concept inspirations by Clive Barker, Guillermo del Toro and H.R. Giger.

Spectral Motion ultimately built their "Stranger Things" monster and they were very pleased with the results since it terrified everyone.

ScreenCrush noted that the Duffers also referred to a relationship between Chief Hopper (David Harbour) and Eleven (Miller Brown) in "Stranger Things." They were able to push the limits with Barb in "Stranger Things" Season 1 and hope that they can continue that momentum in the following season.

It is likely that Netflix will proceed with "Stranger Things" Season 2, although a launch date has yet to be confirmed. More updates and details are expected soon.
