'Supergirl' Season 2 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Chris Wood Joins Cast as Series Regular; Production Currently Underway

Someone new is heading to National City. "Containment" star Chris Wood has been cast in a super secret role in the upcoming "Supergirl" season 2, which debuts in The CW in October. The 28-year old actor is a CW alum, appearing in "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Carrie Diaries" before taking on the role of Jake Rikey in "Containment."

According to TV Line, the series regular role has not yet been disclosed by the studio, which is gearing up for "Supergirl" season 2's premiere in the network from its original run in CBS. What they can confirm, however, that Wood will play a DC Comics character who will first appear in the early episodes of the show's second season.

Wood will join newcomers Lynda Carter, who will play the President of the United States, Tyler Hoechlin, who will play Superman, and Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, who is rumored to replace Calista Flockhart as the editor-in-chief of CatCo Magazine.

Meanwhile, it seems that filming has began for "Supergirl" season 2, as Chyler Leigh, who plays Kara's (Melissa Benoist) adoptive sister Alex Danvers on the show, and Mehcad Brooks, who plays CatCo art director James Olsen, both shared photos of the first table read for the show's second season. The cast and crew are currently in Langley, British Columbia to film the show.

Meanwhile, Heavy is reporting that Benoist will be at this weekend's San Diego Comic Con, and will be part of the Entertainment Weekly "Women Who Kick Ass" panel alongside "Gotham"'s Morena Baccarin, "Xena: Warrior Princess"'s Lucy Lawless, "Orphan Black"'s Tatiana Maslany, and Connie Nielsen, who is set to portray Queen Hippolyta in the highly anticipated 2017 DC film, "Wonder Woman." Fans who want to get a glimpse of Benoist alongside other female stars can see them during the “Women Who Kick Ass” panel, which will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 at Hall H.

"Supergirl" season 2 debuts on The CW on October 10 at 8 p.m.
