It's official. As decreed by Warner Bros., Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" will be available on Blu-Ray, DVD, just in time for Christmas wish lists everywhere, December 3.
Unfortunately, we know that a director's cut doesn't seem to be in the cards. A shame, as this was to be Nolan's last take on the caped crusader. According to Nolan, "We've had our say on the character...I've got no plans to do anything more, and certainly, no involvement with any 'Justice League' project....We're finished with all we're doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character..."
However, a wide array of "behind the scenes" footage is expected. Both of Nolan's previous Batman titles, "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" featured cast and crew interviews, costume design, pre-production footage, and more.
On its opening weekend, "The Dark Knight Rises" was the second-biggest midnight debut ever, following the finale to the Harry Potter's franchise, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2."
According to boxofficemojo, by the time it was out of theatres, "Rising" had made a total of over $1 billion worldwide, coming in at the 9th highest grossing movie of all time. It also received high praise from numerous critics. Drew McWeeny of HitFlix said to "whoever Warner Bros hires to reboot the Batman films a few years from now, I wish you luck. The bar is as high as it could possibly be."
We'll all get our chance to watch "The Dark Knight Rises" at home later this year on December 3.
