Thor: The Dark World Release Date: Is Viggo Mortensen Doctor Strange?

There are rumor circulating that "Thor: The Dark World" will involve Odin's vault where we all know the Infinity Gauntlet is currently being held. The website Screent Rant claim that Doctor Stephen Stranger will be working alongside Jane Foster and that Dr. Strange will be playing a rather large role in the film.

The site speculates that one of the items in Odin's vault is the mystical object that gives Stephen Strange the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme. One rumor that is gaining some steam is that "Lord Of The Rings" Star Viggo Mortensen will play the iconic role of the Sorcerer Supreme.

But a recent interview on the site The Omelete with Victoria Alonso, who has co-produced/executive produced many movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, seems to debunk that rumor.

"We would love to work with Viggo Mortensen, Alonso told The Omelet. "I've been trying that for years. But I don't know if Viggo is even acting anymore. I thought he wasn't acting anymore. It would be great to work with him in the future, but we don't have him signed, no."

So no Mortensen as of right now, but Alonso did not deny the rumors that Dr. Strange will be in the "Thor" sequel. For those unfamiliar with the Master of the Mystic Arts, Dr. Strange was a world-renowned but selfish neurosurgeon who only cared about wealth from his career. Strange is then involved in a car accident that cripples his hands and effectively ends his ability to conduct surgery.

Strange desperately searches for a cure to restore his hands, and ultimately travels to the Himalayas in search of a hermit called the Ancient One. The Ancient One refuses to help Strange, but sense good in him. Strange eventually proves himself worthy by thwarting the Ancient One's disciple, Baron Mordo, from killing the old man and is then taught mystic arts.

It will be interesting to see if Dr. Strange's appearance in the film will act as a full on origin of the character or if he is already a student of the mystic arts. "Thor: The Dark World" releases on Nov. 8, 2013.
