Fans have been waiting for "Half Life 3" for a decade. Although there is only a minor chance that "Half Life 3" will be released at all, gamers are still optimistic that the first-person shooter will eventually hit shelves one way or another.
"Half Life 3" was promised in 2006, while its predecessor, "Half Life 2," concluded in October 2007.
Markus "Notch" Persson, creator of "Minecraft," tweeted his request for a Half Life 3 release. Several Half Life 3 fans immediately speculated that the game creator had some vital information that may actually hint the game's eventual launch.
However, Persson followed up his post by stating that he has no information about "Half Life 3," and joked that the game was going to become available the next day.
Aside from Twitter, Half Life 3 followers have set up various points all over the internet where they can immediately get news whether the game developer, Valve, was on a move that could potential result to an actual sequel coming out.
A whole subreddit focuses on the franchise and about 27,000 subscribers are waiting for any sign of "Half Life 3."
Rolling Stone stated that although it has already been too long since the game was initially promised to fans, the popularity of "Half Life 2" contributed much to its lasting appeal. The second game sold over 12 million copies.
Valve has also been very quiet about "Half Life 3" in the past several years, adding to the intrigue.
Rumors that "Half Life 3" will never launch also continued when Valve announced that they intend to focus on multiplayer games, which is the opposite of the Half Life franchise, which is generally single player.
Main writer Marc Laidlaw also exited Valve and said that his time working on the series is already in the past. Valve CEO Gabe Newell last mentioned the title in passing in March 2015. Valve filed a trademark for "Half Life 3" and featured some concept art before shutting down again.
ValveTime noted that "Half Life 3," or at least its potential launch, still has a special place among gamers. "Half Life" is more than just a fun game, it was a turning point for an entire generation. Valve successfully integrated innovations to the system, gameplay and technology.
The storyline and voice acting were also superb in both the original and sequel. Players admired how they were completely immersed in the game and finished it completely satisfied.
