The last “Fallout 4” DLC came in May with “Far Harbor”. Included are quests which were meant to offer gamers something unique.
Similarities with “Fallout: New Vegas”?
Except perhaps for a few, only modders are able to tell if there are similarities with other mods. According to one modder named Guillaume Veer, he couldn’t help but notice some similarities tied up to his “Fallout: New Vegas” mod named “Autumn Leaves”. Digging deeper, it was tied up to a quest titled "Brain Dead".
The said “Fallout” mod was released a month prior to the debut of “Fallout 4” last year, the claims of which can be seen here at ModDB post. Among the similarities he points out include that of story beats, characters and the game environment.
While he details the things which seem familiar, the point is that all of that happens when players go beyond the Vault’s entrance. The comparison can be seen here via Game Spot.
Bethesda responds
Bethesda was asked for comments on the claims. VP for Marketing Pete Hines made it clear that the company will never, or in any way, disrespect the modding community. As far as the similarities singled out, he calls them all purely coincidental.
There is no doubt that Bethesda supports the modding community, going as far as allowing mods to make their way into game consoles. That alone is a practice that is far from the ordinary.
Veer totally cool with the similarities
As far as Veer is concerned, he is upset nor bothered by the similarities. It is not a big issue to begin with and even admitted that he too takes inspiration from other games, “Fallout” included.
But in the event that there was something copied, all he asks is some form of acknowledgement.
"Many of us are making mods, often taking years of our free time in order to get a job in the industry, and this kind of recognition would really gives us a tremendous boost."
Right now, any form of acknowledgement from Bethesda may not be happening as they stand firm of not stealing anything from the modding community.
