Assassin's Creed 3 And Splinter Cell: Blacklist Game Publisher Ubisoft Unveils State-Of-The-Art Performance Capture Studio

Ubisoft recently announced the launch of its new world-class performance capture studio in Toronto. The new facility will provide the game publisher a place where high-quality content for games can be created.

Ubisoft revealed the information in a press release on its website. The publisher says that the studio will be uniting expertise from the film and game industries, and that the performance capture studio will help Ubisoft Toronto create deeper characters for actor-driven games.

"We are extremely proud to unveil a performance capture studio in Toronto after just two years of operation in the city," said Yannis Mallat, CEO, Ubisoft Toronto and Montreal. "This is about more than just the creation of a cutting-edge facility - it's about Ubisoft transforming our approach to storytelling with a focus on acting talent and the delivery of the highest-quality performance output for our cinematics and animation teams. The studio also is a testament to our confidence in the talent in Ontario to deliver some of the best performance capture in the industry for games."

The 2,000 square-foot studio located in Toronto's Junction neighborhood will provided Ubisoft with a dedicated space for adapting techniques and technology that are used in films including simultaneously capturing a game actor's vocals, facial expressions and body movements.

The studio will achieve theses advanced performance capture techniques by combining cutting-edge tools such as 80 high-resolution Vicon T160 motion capture cameras and the use of wireless helmet cameras for accurate facial capture.

The new studio, has already been used for Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Blacklist and will contribute to capture for future Ubisoft projects from all 26 of its worldwide studios.
