"Homeland" Season 6 is currently in development. Series main director LesliLinkaGlatter recently shared some details about the upcoming plot and characters.
According to the director, she is not quite sure about the ultimate turnout of Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) in "Homeland" Season 6. Glatter noted that in Season 4, Carrie ordered an airstrike that successfully hit its targets.
However, the bombs also killed innocent civilians. She noted that the experience will continue to haunt Carrie as she deals with work and her psychological condition throughout "Homeland" Season 6.
In an exclusive report by Huffington Post, Carrie is the character who suffers the most in the series.
Aside from being an intelligence analyst who has to make crucial decisions about highly volatile areas and issues, she is also suffering from bipolar disorder. Glatter surmised that showrunner Alex Gansa already knows what will ultimately become of Carrie, although she remains in the dark.
The "Homeland" Season 6 director continued that it will be interesting to determine whether she can truly find inner peace.
"Homeland" Season 6 will be set in New York City. Not a lot of details have been revealed about the next chapter, but there were updates that Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) will survive his near-death experience at the end of the fifth season. However, he may not be the same person as before.
"Homeland" Season 6 will cover the interim period when the previous U.S. President exits from office and the President-elect, who is a woman, prepares to step in. "Homeland" Season 6 will apparently highlight the upcoming U.S. presidential elections.
Glatter said that since the death of Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), Carrie's paramour, the story has changed much and new characters have been introduced through the years.
She explained that every season has almost been a total reset, where they create a world, develop it and destroy it in the end. "Homeland" Season 6 is expected to follow the same pattern.
Previously, Carrie tried to live a normal life, but eventually realized that being an agent was part of herself. Glatter added that they will delve deeper into the characters in "Homeland" Season 6.
Glatter said that the "Homeland" Season 6 storyline is always based from working with real-life intelligence experts. They constantly discuss real world issues and events, which also contribute to the sharp contrast between "Homeland" Season 6 and actual circumstances.
"Homeland" Season 6 is set to launch in January 2017 on Showtime. The network has already ordered Seasons 7 and 8.
