"The Originals" went out with a bang last May when it ended its third season in an episode that left Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) in charge of the sleeping Mikaelsons. This does not bode well for the family, who were trying to stop a prophecy and subsequently failed. What will become of them come once "The Originals" season 4 premieres in January?
It goes without saying that the Mikaelsons would come back to life hopefully during the premiere of "The Originals" season 4. If the producers choose to do it gradually or with the help of the Salvatore brothers, it would definitely be more interesting. In fact, fans have long been clamoring for a meaningful crossover to occur in both "The Originals" and "The Vampire Diaries," given the nature of the two Julie Plec-created shows.
Fans did see a slight crossover earlier this year, but some were quick to criticize it as a lukewarm effort to include "The Vampire Diaries" characters in "The Originals." In fact, Zap2It has criticized the crossover, calling the flashback guest appearances "superfluous."
Now that the Salvatore brothers have a good reason to visit the now-asleep Mikaelsons, it's easy to speculate that one or both of them would make an appearance in "The Originals" season 4. It would make sense that Damon or Stefan Salvatore would help remove the Tunde blade from Klaus' heart.
Meanwhile, fans can be assured that Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) will not turn out to be the major villain once "The Originals" season 4 begins. Executive producer Michael Narducci told TV Guide that he never saw Marcel as a villain and assured fans that he won't turn into a monster come season 4.
"Marcel is not going to slowly be possessed by the power that he has embraced. He's still the same guy. He's just stronger and more powerful," Narducci explained. He added that Marcel's journey now involves the character finding out how to deal with taking back his city and not repeating Klaus' mistakes.
"The Originals" season 4 is set to return this January 2017, with "Containment" stars Kristen Gutoskie and Christina Moses playing recurring roles.
