Chris Evans, recently revealed in interviews at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend that production for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is being rescheduled and the film will begin shooting in March instead of at the end of the year, as it was originally planned. The delay leaves an open period in Marvel's chaotic shooting schedule between "Thor: The Dark World" and "Captain America 2." Could this be the perfect time for the studio to work on the film adaptation of Avengers member Ant-Man?
Ant-Man is the name of several fictional characters in the Marvel comic's universe. His best-known human persona is a Henry Pym, a brilliant scientist who invented a substance that allowed him to change his size. After Pym retired his Ant-Man identity, successors Scott Lang and Eric O'Grady have used Pym's technology to take on the role of Ant-Man.
Film website, Latino Review reported that after Edgar Wright showed Ant-Man test footage at Comic-Con, the director said he could begin shooting the actual film in London when the filming of "Thor 2" concludes production.
Although the film site mentions that Co- President of Marvel Studios and Executive Producer Louis D'Esposito and Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige have both hinted that Ant-Man will likely release in 2014.
A movie surrounding Pym could also mean that another Avengers team member is coming to the big screen. In the comics his girlfriend, Janet Van Dyne becomes his crime fighting partner the Wasp. The duo then became founding members of the Avengers.
Although Pym is the original Ant-Man, he has adopted other aliases over the years including Giant-Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, and the Wasp after Janet's death in Secret Invasion. So he could perhaps evolve into any of these personalities in future Avengers' films. He is also the man who created the he robot villain Ultron, who in turn is the creator of the Vision, a type of android that later joins the Avengers. Recent rumors have S.H.E.L.D agent Phil Coulson morphing into the android character of Vision. You can read more "Avengers 2" rumors about the potential villain Thanos here.
"Iron Man 3" is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2013; "Thor: The Dark World" on Nov. 3, 2013; "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" on April 14, 2014; "Guardians of the Galaxy" on Aug. 1, 2014; and "The Avengers 2" on May 1, 2015. But maybe Marvel will sneak in the pint size Ant-man into the current schedule.
