'The Night Of' Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: New Show The Next Big Thing On TV? HBO To Be Pretty Fine When 'Game Of Thrones' Ends?

HBO's new drama series, "The Night Of," has a different kind of theme and concept that might live up to the success of "Game of Thrones." Although the show tackles more of reality and far from George R.R. Martin subject, it is timelier because of things happening around the world today.

According to The Daily Beast, "The Night Of" is like a combination of "Making a Murderer" with an alarming environment like "Oz" and twist and topic of "Law & Order: SVU."

The Start Of 'The Night Of'

"The Night Of" will tell the story of Nasir "Naz" Khan (Riz Ahmed), a studious son of Pakistani immigrants.

Naz went in a party as an acceptance to the invite of one of the athletes he teaches on "The Night Of." Enticed by the site of coeds, he sneaked his dad's taxicab and drove all the way to Manhattan.

While driving, Naz gave a ride to a girl named Andrea (Sofia Black D'Elia), unintentionally. Before he knew it, they were already at the Upper West Side partying, drinking, playing dangerously and taking drugs on "The Night Of."

Unfortunately, when Naz woke up, he saw a dead woman and bloody walls on the first episode of "The Night Of."

Surrounded by a lot of evidences and a knife full of blood in his pocket, Naz was accused and arrested by the police. From here, the story of "The Night Of" started.

'The Night Of' To Replace The Fame Of 'Game Of Thrones'

Meanwhile, it looks like HBO will be pretty fine when the "Game of Thrones" ends in 2018 with the release of "The Night Of."

The first episode, "The Beach," of "The Night Of" premiered on HBO on Sunday and was made available online earlier on June 24, as per Quartz.

"The Night Of" first streaming episode gathered a whopping 1.5 million viewers, a very promising figure.

TV critics, like Alan Sepinwall, described "The Night Of" as "the great drama HBO very badly needs right now," while the Atlantic wrote that it remakes the murder mystery.

Hence, "The Night Of" is expected to be the next big thing on TV next to "Game of Thrones." However, it is only a mini-series with eight episodes, unless HBO decides to make it longer.

"The Night Of" airs every Sunday on HBO.
