'Gambit' Release Date, News & Update: Simon Kinberg Confirms Production, Will It Really Push Through?

It has been two years since it was announced that Channing Tatum would play the role of "Gambit" in an "X-Men" spinoff film with the same title. Fast forward today, although no movie was seen, Simon Kinberg recently confirmed that "Gambit" would start shooting next year.

The Indecisive Making Of 'Gambit'

Originally, "Gambit" was supposed to be launched in October this year directed by Rupert Wyatt, the man behind "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."

Unfortunately, he abandoned "Gambit" in September last year and explained that he had a hard time to manage his schedule, according to Game Spot.

However, Deadline reported that time that the real reason why Rupert Wyatt left "Gambit" was because of a dispute over the film's script and budget.

In late 2015, the "Edge of Tomorrow" director Doug Liman was, then, hired and about to start his production for "Gambit" this spring.

But, this also didn't bound to happen and moved again in a later date, at the end of 2016 to give time for script rewrites of "Gambit."

Although Simon Kinberg already announced the making of "Gambit" in 2017, some doubt if this will really push through as Doug Liman has two other movie projects; "The Wall" and "Chaos Walking."

With this, it is more likely that Doug Liman will also leave the making of "Gambit" because of schedule conflicts.

'Gambit'

Meanwhile, just a refresher, "Gambit" is a fictional superhero from Marvel Comics made by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee in 1990.

"Gambit" is a mutant with a different kind of skill to maneuver kinetic energy through his signature move of playing cards.

"Gambit" is often charming, but has a hidden creepiness inside of him, as per Yahoo! Movies. It was first played by Taylor Kitsch in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" in 2009.

As per IMDb, "Gambit" is expected to be released in 2018.
