'The Flash' Movie Release, News & Updates: Who's In The Running To Play Female Lead Revealed; Grant Gustin Comments On Ezra Miller

"The Flash" movie is currently in development with Ezra Miller taking on the role of the scarlet speedster. There are also three females who will potentially be picked as female lead.

Fans of the TV show were dismayed that Grant Gustin was not taking on the titular character. Gustin plays Barry Allen on The CW series, which is set to start its third season soon.

However, the actor is very supportive of Ezra Miller to play The Flash on the big screen. Gustin explained on Twitter that he does not appreciate how some people may think that he feels sorry for not playing The Flash on film. He stated that he supports Miller as Barry Allen and The Flash on the feature side of DC.

Gustin continued that although he has never personally met Miller, he believes that he is an interesting and fantastic actor. He added that certainly, he would have loved to play the character in a movie, but is already thankful for his role on TV, which is something that he hopes to continue doing for the rest of his life.

ComingSoon reported that "The Flash" film female lead short list features three actresses, namely Kiersey Clemons, Lucy Boynton and Rita Ora. Clemons is reportedly the frontrunner to play the role. She previously worked with "The Flash" director Rick Famuyiwa in "Dope."

Not a lot of details has been revealed yet on which character will be played by Miller's co-star, although there are rumors that she will be a new version of Iris West, who is being played by Candice Patton in the TV series. Variety stated that the original director, Seth Grahame-Smith, previously exited the project due to creative differences. Famuyiwa has since stepped in to helm the project, although the studio will keep Smith's latest draft of the script.

"The Flash" movie is said to be given an original treatment by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Production is set to begin later in 2016.

ComingSoon stated that "The Flash" film is expected to launch on Mar. 23, 2018. Miller as Barry Allen, however, will initially appear in "Justice League Part One," which is set to release on Nov. 17, 2017. He will be seen alongside other superheroes in the DC Universe such as Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher), as well as returning characters like Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot).

More updates and details are expected soon.
