Last night, Shoryuken was reporting that some players with advance copies of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 had managed to find some hidden characters among the game's code. Now it appears as though the rumors are official, as some screenshots of the characters have made their way onto the internet.
So far, it looks like gamers have found the following:
* Unknown, the boss from the previous Tekken Tag Tournament. "She" was an unlockable character, but had no fighting style of her own, and mimicked other fighters like Combot and Mokujin did. The Wolf Spirit that hovered above her in the first game doesn't seem to appear in the second game.
* Violet, an alternate costume for Lee that first appeared in Tekken 4.
* a thin version of Bob
* Dr. Boskonovitch, who's hand his hand in the creation or alteration of any Tekken character affiliated with robotics, from Yoshimitsu to Jack. He's also creator the creator Alisa Bosconovitch, and the kangaroo Roger, and dinosaur Alex. He was one of the only playable characters in Tekken 3.
* Miharu Hirano, who was playable in Tekken 4, but only as a palette swap of Ling Xiaoyu.
* Finally, a character who makes his first ever debut as a playable character, Lili's butler Sebastian.
The Tekken series has something of a history of allowing special characters to be unlocked by completing particular actions or objectives.
Prior to this reveal, Harada has promised that he still has "some characters left to be revealed" that fans have asked for, and that, thankfully, "none of them are paid DLC."
Factoring this new development, this brings the already bulging roster of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 to almost 60 characters total.
The game will also have a slew of pre-order benefits, including:
- Exclusive Characters: Depending on the retailer, players will have immediate access to 2 of the following characters at launch:
* Michelle Chang and Angel
* Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre
- The Snoop Dogg Stage: This fighting arena continues a tradition of iconic stage backgrounds throughout TEKKEN history, with the Doggfather making an appearance as a non-playable character. The legend himself has also composed and performed an exclusive track 'Knocc 'em Down' which will feature in this stage.
- The Big Bikini Bundle: More than 150 swimsuits offer a very different style of costume for all characters, even Panda and Kuma!
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 arrives on PS3 and Xbox 360 to the US later this week, September 11, with a future release date for Nintendo's Wii U.
