"Outlander" Season 2 already took its final bow on Saturday with a 90-minute finale episode, "Dragonfly in Amber." Although fans of the American-British drama series saw the death of a major character, Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish), Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) give new hope to the Jacobites.

On "Outlander" Season 2 finale, Jamie Fraser didn't die at the hands of the English at the Battle of Culloden.

Instead, the War Chieftain Dougal MacKenzie met his death at the hands of Jamie Fraser on "Outlander" Season last episode, "Dragonfly in Amber."

"Outlander" executive producer, Ronald D. Moore revealed that if the Season 2 viewers are not familiar with Diana Gabaldon's novel series, which the title is based, they will be surprised with the death of Dougal MacKenzie.

Ronald Moore explained that Dougal MacKenzie was a great and powerful character, but they have to end his force.

According to Deadline, Ronald Moore described that the finale of "Outlander" Season 2 had a different tone and it was quite intentional. But, he also said that it was not far from the Season 1's story of "Outlander."

Meanwhile, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ronald Moore unveiled that "Outlander" Season 3 will be in the works later this year.

In fact, they are now preparing for "Outlander" Season 3 and working on its scripts and stories.

"So we can start actively planning season 4 as opposed to waiting for a pickup. Season 3 is a traveling show," Ronald Moore teased about the upcoming seasons of "Outlander."

"It starts in Scotland, but then it's a sea voyage. There are pirates. It's in Jamaica. It's in the New World. And book 4 is in the New World and suddenly in North Carolina," he added.

Ronald Moore also hinted that Tobias Menzies' role on "Outlander" will soon come to an end. However, he will still be occasionally seen for flashbacks of Frank or Jack Randall that might bring to a close on "Outlander" Season 3.
