'Saw: Legacy' Begins Filming September; What To Expect From The Eighth Installment To The Horror Franchise

The eighth installment of the Saw franchise is set to start filming in September, titled "Legacy." Recent updates revealed the names of the people working on the project, which is set to start shooting in Toronto, Canada.

For several months, fans of the horror series have been speculating on the narrative of "Saw: Legacy." Some opined that the plot may focus on the origin of Jigsaw.

Others thought that the setting may be completely different, including a whole new villain. There were others who wished that the story would focus more on the tension and horror, instead of full gore, similar to the original.

ScreenRant wrote that John "Jigsaw" Kramer (Tobin Bell) has been dead since the third movie and only appeared in the sequels through flashback scenes.

Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) picked up Jigsaw's work and eventually died in the seventh installment. There are theories that Hoffman may be alive and return to bring more horror in "Saw: Legacy."

Although the anticipation for the Saw franchise has somewhat diminished through the years, there are still a lot of loyal fans who are requesting for a continuation. Perhaps the studio is testing whether the market is still good for another film of torture and brutality.

BloodyDisgusting wrote that "Saw: Legacy" was created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell in 2004. Dan Heffner and Oren Koules are set to serve as producers again. The director of the next movie has yet to be confirmed.

ScreenRant wrote that the original "Saw" film became a huge hit, although working with a $1.2 million budget, and subsequently raking in $100 million at the world box office.

The massive popularity of the first film spawned several instalments through the years, which were also well-received by fans and critics.

The last movie in the franchise was "Saw 3D: The Final Chapter" in 2010. News of the eighth "Saw: Legacy" began circulating in the past few years.

Earlier in 2016, there were rumors that Lionsgate hired writing duo Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger to write the script for the next movie.

Initially, Wan and Whannel were said to come back as executive producers, although the latest news confirmed that they were actually taking care of the story.

According to the listing on IATSE873, filming will take place from September 12 to October 21, 2016.

This means that if everything goes according to schedule, "Saw: Legacy" may release sometime in 2017. More updates and details are expected soon.
