As one of the characters that helped tie so many of the Avengers movies together, it was truly a shame to see Agent Phil Coulston meet his end. But with Whedon planning both a sequel, and a S.H.I.E.L.D. television series, a lot of fans are wondering if Clark Gregg could return to reprise his role as Agent Coulston in one way or another. After all, when's something as trivial as death stopped a comic character?
With the recent news of Joss Whedon now developing a S.H.I.E.L.D TV show, many fans wonder if it is a possibility that they will see Agent Coulson again on the small screen.
Speaking with movies.com, Gregg expressed an interest in continuing his work with Marvel, whether behind the camera, or in front of it, saying, "I really hit it off with those guys [at Marvel], and I've talked to them lately about some ways I can continue to work with them, perhaps as a writer or director." One rumor that he's addressed is taking on the role of the android Vision, a character who in the comics was brought to life in the comics using brain patterns from deceased characters. Speaking on the rumor, Gregg said, "You know the Vision is synthetic with a soul, sort of, and he's an amazing character who I loved when I used to read those comics. I love the idea of Coulson as that guy, but I don't know if that's in the cards."
Fans evidently are hopeful for Gregg to reprise his role in one way or another. One talented fan has even gone so far as to create a bust of Gregg as how he might appear as the android.
Gregg called the piece "actually really moving."
Giving hope to the idea of a possible Vision appearance is the supposed upcoming Ant-Man movie by Edgar Wright. The hero's alter ego, Dr. Hank Pym, was indirectly responsible for the android's creation.
Even if Coulson doesn't return to the big screen, there's still a possibility that he'll appear on the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, as there is no indication, as of yet, when it's set to take place in the Marvel time line. Supposedly it's to act independently from the Avengers movie storyline, but exact details remain to be seen.
