'Power Rangers' Movie: Release Date, News & Update

"Power Rangers," a favorite kid's program in the 90s, is getting a make-over for its reboot. Its director, Dean Israelite, revealed last year that the show is going to hit the big screen and it will feature new cast line-up and upgraded story.

It was reported that the "Power Rangers" movie was set to premiere in the United States on March 24, 2017 while the release date for United Kingdom has yet to be announced. The cast has been finalized as well and it includes Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger Jason, Becky Gomez as Yellow Ranger Trini, Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger Kimberly, RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger Billy and Ludi Lin as Black Ranger Zack

In addition, Elizabeth Banks is taking on a villain role and will act as Rita Repulsa while David Denman is set to play as Sam Scott, Red Ranger's father. Actor and MMA fighter Jason David Frank may also appear in a cameo role since he was one of the original cast in the TV series where he played as Tommy Oliver.

On June 21, Bryan Cranston also confirmed his participation in the film. As posted on his Twitter, he will be playing as Zordon. "Excited to play #Zordon in the #PowerRangersMovie!" he tweeted.

In the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" series, Cranston was the voice actor behind the characters - Twin Man and Snizzard. He was highly recognized for his role in "Breaking Bad" which earned him the Best Actor trophy from the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Television Awards in 2014.

Finally, Entertainment Weekly reported that the cast of the new "Power Rangers" movie is not wearing the old costumes anymore. The five teen heroes will instead wear translucent extraterrestrial armor suits that crystallize all over their bodies.

"Power Rangers" debuted on TV via Fox channel in 1993. It was categorized as a children's show but many parents say that it was too violent for their kids. Despite this fact, the franchise persists and several spin-offs or sequels were produced including the 1995 "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie."
