While a lot of people are still hungover from the fourth of July holiday weekend, the cast and crew of Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok" is working hard in the Gold Coast, as they begin production on the third installment of the "Thor" franchise. Back in May, Marvel announced that a slew of Hollywood A-listers will be joining the highly anticipated film to breathe life into new characters who will join the fight against the mighty, evil Thanos.
The Marvel newbies include Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett, who will fight on the side of evil as the villain Hela, "Independence Day: Resurgence" and "Jurassic Park" actor Jeff Goldblum, who will play the Grandmaster, "Creed"'s Tessa Thompson, who will play Valkyrie, and "Star Trek" and "The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" actor Karl Urban who will be the face of Skurge.
Producer and Marvel president Kevin Feige called the upcoming film the "most dangerous and heroic adventure yet," adding that he is very excited about the addition of the new cast members to the highly anticipated third installment of the "Thor" series.
"Thor: Ragnarok" brings back Chris Hemsworth as the titular hammer-weilding Norse god, Tom Hiddleston as Thor's mischievous, adoptive brother, Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, and Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins as Odin, the Ruler of Asgard. The film will also feature Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner A.K.A. The Hulk, whose presence was sorely missed in "Captain America: Civil War." Taika Waititi is helming the film, with a script from Stephany Folsom and Eric Pearson. Entertainment Weekly reports that Waititi took to Twitter to share a behind-the-scenes photo of production down under. Ruffalo even shared a quick behind the scenes via his Snapchat.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is set for a November 3, 2017 release.
