This week on "SmackDown," two champions clash against one another as the WWE Champion Dean Ambrose faces off against Intercontinental Champion The Miz in the main event. Also, a huge Fatal Four-Way Match is on the books to determine a #1 contender to the Rusev's United States Championship, also being defended on this episode.
- Cesaro def. Alberto del Rio, Sheamus, and Apollo Crews in a Fatal Four-Way match to become the new #1 contender to the United States Championship. Cesaro gets his shot, but Rusev challenges him to take his shot right after this match.
- Rusev def. Cesaro to retain the United States Championship. Solid start to "SmackDown" so far, with the two wrestling a believable match despite it immediately following the Fatal Four-Way. Wish this was a longer match that could have gotten extra promotion throughout the show.
- Dana Brooke def. Billie Kay. Billie Kay is a regular in "WWE NXT."
- Sasha Banks gives a backstage interview, saying she's focused on the title. Shouldn't Paige be focused too?
- Dean Ambrose appears on MizTV. The Miz rides down Ambrose, calling him a "black mark" on everyone with a championship in WWE. The two end up getting into each other's faces, and the match ends up being made as the "SmackDown" main event.
- The Wyatt Family (Braun Strowman and Erick Rowan) def. two local wrestlers. After the match, the New Day appeared onscreen to cut a promo, but Xavier Woods was silent. Bray Wyatt taunts Xavier Woods.
- Sasha Banks def. Summer Rae. It was a surprisingly longer match.
- Dean Ambrose def. The Miz in a non-title match.
A seemingly quiet episode of "SmackDown" thanks to the relatively thin show roster for this one, but they made it work. Let's hope the WWE Draft deservedly reinvigorates the show (and everyone who busts their butt putting out good matches).
