So far the best news about the Michael Bay produced "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" project, is that the movie was put on an indefinite hiatus, because of problems with the script.
Bay has made a slew of announcement about the film and it four turtle protagonists that have made fans of the franchise cry a foul. Some of Bay's brilliant ideas included making the turtles aliens instead of mutants. He would even take to his personal site to defend the changes.
"The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie," Bay wrote. "This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles. They care very much about making this film for the fans. Everyone on this team cares about the fans. Just give them a chance. Jonathan the director is a major fan of the whole franchise."
Well several site are reporting that the Ninja Turtles script has leaked and is indeed a travesty to many people's childhood memories. The few sites that posted the script have removed it due to "request" from Paramount. But movie website Latino-Review has written an opinion based list of some of the issues that they found with the script by Andre Nemec and Josh Applebaum.
According to Latin Review, "It's half-good and half absolutely horrible, with the first act-and-a-half delivering what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans want: awesome Turtle action and wisecracks. What comes after, well, it's Midichlorian-level nonsense."
The site also mention that many of the human characters have been re-written and are very different from their previous appearances in other media. You can check out the rest of the issue here.
Hopefully the script will be rewritten and the filmmakers will better respect the source material.
