"The LEGO Ninjago Movie" is currently in development. A number of actors have already been confirmed to become part of the cast in the sequel, which will be the third in the series.
"The LEGO Movie" was the first in the series, launching in 2014, and garnering mostly positive reviews from fans and critics. The success of the first film spurred Warner Bros. to come up with the LEGO Batman movie, which airs in February 2017, and "The LEGO Movie Sequel" in February 2019. The LEGO Ninjago movie, which is based on the LEGO toys of the same name, will be launched between the 2017 and 2019 films.
Brickset.com revealed that according to a 2016 Licensing Expo catalog, Jackie Chan will be the voice behind Master Wu, Dave Franco is the voice actor of Lloyd, Abbi Jacobson will play Nya, Michael Pena will play Kai, Zach Woods will voice Zane, KumailNanjiani will play Jay and Fred Armisen will take on the role of Cole.
Dan and Kevin Hageman, who also wrote the "Ninjago" TV series on Cartoon Network, were tasked to work on the screenplay with Kevin Chesley and Bryan Shukoff. Charlie Bean will serve as director, while Phil Lord and Chris Miller will serve as producers.
According to Screen Rant, the first LEGO movie set up a family-friendly tone that mixes both humor and content that would adequately cater both adults and children. The same approach is expected in the upcoming "Ninjago" movie, although the creative team wanted each LEGO movie installment to have its own distinct voice, style and feel.
The list of talented voice actors will definitely help the sequel have its own original blend of action and comedy. Director Charlie Bean is an animation veteran, while the writers have vast experience in the field of high-energy cartoon action that will suit the potential cast and story well.
Collider noted that the LEGO Ninjagomovie is expected to be very funny and full of adventure. The film synopsis explained that "Ninjago" is about six young ninja who were given the mission of defending their island home, Ninjago. By day, they are ordinary teenagers who deal with their woes in high school. By night, they turn into talented warriors, fighting monsters and enemies with their variety of skills and vehicles.
"The LEGO Ninjago Movie" is scheduled to be released on Sept. 22, 2017. More updates and details are expected soon.
