So a lot of speculation and rumors were going around concerning Bethesda's next DLC for Skyrim. Personally, I thought Hearthfire was pointing towards a month of the Tamriel calender, but apparently, it has a much "homier" meaning. Y'know, hearth? Like a fireplace? Where loved ones would surround in the days of youre? Well, that's the direction that Hearthfire is going. As Bethesda describes:
"Create a living home.
With this official add-on to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you can purchase land and build your own home from the ground up - from a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with an armory, alchemy laboratory, stable, garden, and more. Use all-new tools like the drafting table and carpenter's workbench to transform quarried stone, clay, and sawn logs into structures and furnishings. Even transform your house into a home by adopting children."
And without further ado, I present, Bethesda's official trailer for Hearthfire.
So the dragonborne is entering the real estate market, eh?
At least now you'll finally be able to sell your collection of dragon bones and put the money to good use. With all the new collectibles, displays, possible hires, etc., expect a LOT of new achievements / trophies, and more than likely new quests.
I like the customization of everything, and all the options, but it definitely lacks the drama of dragon slaying and vampire hunting.
Unfortunately, the DLC's only been announced for one platform, the XBox 360, with no word on a possible release for either PC or PS3. PS3 gamers are still waiting on Skyrim's last DLC, Dawnguard, but Bethesda has yet to offer any new bits of news.
In any event, Hearthfire will be available on Xbox 360 for 400 Microsoft Points ($5), September 4.
