Last year, Warner Bros. together with Hasbro announced that they're cooking up a film adaptation of one of the most popular role-playing games today, "Dungeons and Dragons." The studio announced that David Leslie Johnson, whose credits include "Wrath of the Titans 2" and "The Conjuring 2," already has a script for the film, which Warner Bros. see as the beginning of a franchise.
"[Dungeons & Dragons] has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property," Greg Silverman, Warner Bros.' president of creative development and worldwide production told Entertainment Weekly. Those endless creative possibilities include one that involves Ansel Elgort as the star of the upcoming "Dungeons and Dragons" film.
In fact, Deadline reports that the the 22 year old actor is in negotiating with Warner Bros. to star in the upcoming film. Elgort charmed moviegoers when he played Caleb Prior in the "Divergent" series, including this year's "The Divergent Series: Allegiant," and Augustus Waters in the young adult film adaptation of "The Fault in Our Stars" in 2014. The actor also stars in this year's "November Criminals" alongside Chloe Grace Moretz, and "Billionaire Boys Club," which also stars Taron Egerton, Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irvine, Cary Elwes, and Emma Roberts.
Reaching a deal with Elgort places the actor on the brink of another big franchise, as it is expected to perform well enough to carry sequels. Back in 2000, a "Dungeons and Dragons" feature film directed by and produced by Courtney Solomon was released by New Line Cinema, to lukewarm reviews.
"Dungeons and Dragons" was created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson and was released by Tactical Studies Rulse, Inc., and in 1997 by Wizards of the Coast after TSR was bought by the latter.
