Gamers are eagerly looking forward to the release of the next-generation Xbox. Dubbed "Xbox Scorpio", the system is described as the most powerful console ever.
During E3 2016, Microsoft announced at its press conference that they will release two distinct console hardware upgrades. The first will be the Xbox S, which releases in 2016, followed by the Xbox Scorpio, which will launch in 2017.
The Xbox Scorpio is said to be almost five times as powerful as the current Xbox One, particularly catering to enthusiasts and still running the same classic titles at a higher resolution. The system is said to be capable of virtual reality (VR) at some point, although the details have yet to be announced.
Neurogadget stated that the Xbox Project Scorpio is expected to be a monster of gaming consoles. It is said to be more powerful than the upcoming PS4 NEO, although the exact specifications have not been revealed yet. Gamers who plan to acquire the Xbox One S will find it smaller and slimmer than the present Xbox One. Users can stream videos and watch blu-ray movies at 4K Ultra HD. It also has HDR support for both gaming and video and includes a new Xbox Wireless Controller with the textured grip and increased signal performance.
Game Informer mentioned that there will not be a frame rate difference between the Xbox Scorpio and classic Xbox One. Microsoft Studios general manager Shannon Loftis explained that the same frame rate will be provided, since the frame rate is typically determined by the game developer based on the gameplay mechanic. Game creators do not necessarily intend to create two distinct mechanics for two different configurations. This means that games that are limited to lower framerates on Xbox One will remain at lower framerates, to maintain their competitive nature.
Dave McCarthy, head of operations at Xbox, told GameSpot that the general concerns and feedback that people gave influenced their approach to Xbox Project Scorpio as a whole. They plan to provide a seamless experience, going across the ecosystem of devices, which also includes Windows. He added that they are regularly learning and improving on the concept. McCarthy explained that the term of an upgrade is no longer present. Gamers will be delighted to realize that the games and controllers that they purchase and play today will still work on the next-generation machines that Microsoft creates.
Microsoft also clarified that games are not divided between the classic and new console, but players have the potential of enjoying higher resolution and power on the new version. More updates and details on the Xbox Scorpio are expected soon.
