Historical mysteries and gun slinging adventures are on hold for Nathan Drake as Sony's Uncharted movie loses director Neil Burger, according to a report in Variety.
Burger is the second director to leave the proposed movie having succeeded Oscar nominee David O. Russell, who had wanted to cast Mark Wahlberg to play hero Nathan Drake.
"Uncharted" is based on the videogame series of the same name and follows the exploits of a modern-day treasure hunter Nathan "Nate" Drake, journalist Elena Fisher and former companions Victor Sullivan, Chloe Frazer, and Charlie Cutter, as they travel around the world to uncover various historical mysteries.
Plans to make the movie continue and the studio has brought in the writers of the "National Treasure" franchise to work on the script.
Variety reports Marianne and Cormac Wibberley will rewrite "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" for Atlas Entertainment and Arad Prods. The producer will hold off their search for a new director in till the duo finishes the script's rewrite, according to Variety.
According to an announcement by Sony, the series has sold 17 million copies worldwide as of April 2012. The series has also received critical acclaim from reviewers and gamers. The first game in the series, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has a positive rating of 89.70 percent on GameRankings and 88/100 on Metacritic.
Actor Nathan Fillion has expressed interest in playing Nathan Drake, by starting a campaign on Twitter to encourage fans to support him in this getting the role. There are currently no actors attached to the film.
