'Person of Interest' Season 6 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Will There Be A Spin-off? Here Is What We Know So Far

“Person of Interest” aired its final episode recently, capping five seasons of artificial intelligence-filled drama but more importantly ending the war between “Team Machine” and “Samaritan."

The finale off “Person of Interest” was expected to be a memorable one so seeing one of the main cast members being killed off was not that surprising.

Who died?

That scene did throw some off, making it look like it was “Finch” (Michael Emerson) who would kick the bucket. Such came up when he instructed by the “Machine” to upload the last copy of the virus, also knowing that he would be destroyed with it.

It turned out that “Finch” was actually on the wrong antenna and “Reese” (Jim Cavaziel) made a deal with the “Machine”. Hence, it was Reese who uploaded the virus in the middle of gun shots, eventually succumbing to gunshot wounds as recapped by E! Online.

What’s with “Shaw’s” Smile?

Though “Person of Interest” is done and over with, there are some talking “spin-off”. Apparently some of the scenes towards the end left some doors open, particularly the one on “Shaw’s” (Sarah Shahi) pay phone call.

“Shaw’s” smile in that scene sent out feelers, including possibly seeing the series return in the future. But according to show creator Jonathan Nolan, that scene was meant to depict something else.

“I think [the smile] is much about hearing Root's voice. And one of the few regrets I have about the way the finale cuts together is that's not totally clear. We had a moment between them at the end, dialogue in that moment with Sarah on the phone, and it just didn't 'fit.' At that point, 'the train was running,' the main score was going, and it felt like it stepped on the moment. But the clear implication is that that relationship continues in this new form --- and that the franchise continues. It felt to us not like a naked attempt to try to build a spinoff,” Cinema Blend reports.

With that ironed out, not everyone is buying into Nolan’s explanation – at least not totally for now. There are some who feel that a possible spin-off could happen, something Nolan admitted would have been possible back in season 2.

That never happened at the time because the producers were focused more on the show as a whole. With the season over and out, could the landscape change in the future?
