Try Borderlands 2 With Some 8-Bit Style

Further whetting our appetites, Gearbox has released a cute 'lil topdown version of their upcoming title, Borderlands 2. All the new characters are there, Slavador, Maya, Zer0, and Axton, each with their own varied stats affecting gameplay. As you might expect, Zer0 and Salvador are at the opposite ends of the spectrum, Zer0 being the quickest, and Salvador is the best with guns. Siren Maya and Commando Axton are probably the most balanced.

The game starts off simply enough, pitting you against simple skags and bandits. But as you get to higher levels, the enemies get more challenging, eventually crossing into bad-ass territory. But don't fret, enemies will drop better gear to help you keep up.

In true arcade fashion, the game allows you to enter your initials so you can chart your score with other people who have nothing better to do.

Seriously lacking in the wub wub department, it's still a fair bit of fun. Try it out here!

The game should help fans kill some time before Borderlands 2 is released on PC, PS3, and XBoox 360.

Borderlands 2 sees the new vault hunters taking on Handsome Jack, a ruthless dictator whose seized control of Pandora.

Taking some time to answer fans' questions via twitter, Borderlands 2's producer Matt Charles says, "There are brand new enemy families in Borderlands 2, and the total count of unique enemies (including special elemental variants with unique AI) is in the triple digits. New environments + new enemy types and behaviours = much more varied combat encounters!"

While Borderlands 2 does feature a roster of new faces for players to pick from, the OG vault hunters are still on-planet. You'll be able to accept missions from Mordecai, Roland, Lilith, and Brick.

Wipe the smile off of Handsome Jack's face when Borderlands 2 hits stores on September 18.
