WWE Battleground 2016 is about a month away and the main event had already been set at last Monday’s WWE Raw following WWE Money in the Bank.
Dean Ambrose ended up becoming the WWE heavyweight champion when he cashed in after the Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins main event. Rollins had just reclaimed the title from the “Big Dog” but the “Lunatic Fringe” wasted no time to pry the title away from the returning “Architect."
As mentioned in a previous post, a possible Triple Threat match for WWE Battleground loomed and such did happen.
The initially scheduled “Triple Threat” match came about when the no. 1 contender’s match between Reigns and Rollins ended in a double-count out per WWE.com. That was until recent developments may change the main event for the upcoming WWE pay-per-view.
Roman Reigns suspended
In a surprise twist, the WWE has suspended three-time heavyweight champion Roman Reigns for violating the company’s wellness policy. He will serve the 30-day suspension effective immediately per WWE.com.
With the suspension, it will be interesting if the Triple Threat match would still be on. He will have a couple of days before the pay-per-view but the fact is he won’t be around to help build up the hype with Ambrose and Rollins needing to do much of the work.
It remains to be seen if the WWE will stick to the original plans though the company can always change the script and make it a one-on-one matchup between Ambrose and Rollins as mentioned on the Bleacher Report.
More woes puts Reigns' future in jeopardy
With the debacle, Reigns finds himself in deeper trouble than before. Already criticized for being pushed too much by the WWE, the recent row can only add to his hard climb to the top.
Should Reigns be removed from the main event of WWE Battleground, the “Big Dog” will likely make him wait until August for WWE SummerSlam.
Considered one of the major pay-per-views, it could be a blessing in disguise for Reigns who may find himself the odd man in the mix if the WWE insists on keeping that Triple Threat match for WWE Battleground 2016.
