In the books, Elba's character, Roland Deschain a.k.a "The Gunslinger," is a descendant of King Arthur. In fact, you can see Arthur's sigil on the image Elba tweeted.
More so, his character's primary weapon is not a sword; instead, he has a pair of revolvers, thus the nickname. "The Gunslinger" used melted parts of Excalibur for his guns.
The Plot
"The Dark Tower" follows the story of Roland Deschain, a frontiersman knight who is set on a quest across Mid-Land to find a tower that stands between time and space.
According to GamesRadar, the film will have a fresh spin on "The Gunslinger's" back story. Even Stephen King admitted this as much. He said that the film may be more of a sequel than a straight-up adaptation.
"The Dark Tower" is scheduled to hit the theaters on February 17, 2017. The film is helmed by Nikolaj Arcel. Idris Elba will star alongside Matthew McConaughey, who portrays Elba's nemesis, "The Man In Black."
