The new images from "American Gods" show Ian McShane as the perfect embodiment of Mr. Wednesday. But will the upcoming Starz series stay true to Neil Gaiman's beloved novel?

The pictures were published by Entertainment Weekly. The two photos offer a glimpse at one of the most iconic settings in Neil Gaiman's "American Gods," where Shadow (Ricky Whittle) accepts an offer from Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane).

The first "American Gods" image features Ian McShane's Mr. Wednesday chilling at Jack's Crocodile Bar (complete with croc stools!).

"It was one of the sets that we were the most excited about and an opportunity to do a tonal landgrab for what we are and what the style of the show will be," executive producer Bryan Fuller said of the "American Gods" scene in the dive-bar.

"[Jack's] is a kind of hillbilly chic aesthetic for Shadow's entrée into the world of the gods," he explained.

"The world of the gods" is actually the continuing fight between old and new deities for the love of their followers. "American Gods" will show that deities are a lot like humans, as confirmed by Fuller's fellow exec producer Michael Green.

"It's really much more of an immigration story than it is a god story," Green stated before explaining that "American Gods" will portray deities as (gasp!) regular people.

"We wanted them to be people with problems. It's not about lightning bolts - it's about the question of day-to-day survival," he concluded.

There are high expectations for "American Gods," especially since the Starz series already boasts of an impressive cast. The show's most recent addition is none other than former "Sleepy Hollow" star Orlando Jones (via Movie News Guide). In addition to that, Jones will be playing the iconic Mr. Nancy, who also appeared in Neil Gaiman's novel "Anansi Boys."

Catch Ian McShane's Mr. Wednesday charm his way through "American Gods" when the series finally debuts on Starz later this year.
