Siliconera reported that according to Yasue, they will not add any Final Fantasy worlds. Several original Kingdom Hearts worlds like Hollow Bastion and Traverse Town featured Final Fantasy characters, but they will not be focusing on these. Instead, they are creating on original worlds and Disney worlds.
He explained that they used Disney worlds because these are easy to recognize and have become very popular among fans through the shows and movies. He described the settings as also very unique and distinct. They wanted variety, so they opted for the new and Disney worlds so that they will not have so much of the same thing in “Kingdom Hearts III.”
GameSpot revealed that in previous Kingdom Hearts games, the main protagonist Sora and an ally travel to and explore familiar worlds from Disney films and shows. Each world has various challenges, boss fights, as well as characters from classic Disney cartoons. In the past, the games showcased characters, features and settings from famous titles like “The Little Mermaid,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Beauty and the Beast,” among others.
For “Kingdom Hearts III,” game developer Square Enix decided to focus more on Disney and original worlds and deviate from the locations in the Final Fantasy series for a change. Yasue continued that they choose worlds for the RPG games based on the gameplay concepts that they wanted to execute. They choose Disney Worlds according to certain styles of gameplay.
