New 'Prey' Game Is A Total Rebirth Of The Entire Franchise, Release Date, Plot, Specs & Everything We Know Here

A new “Prey” game is currently in development. According to Bethesda, it will be a complete rebirth of the franchise and will not be related to the cancelled “Prey 2.”

Pete Hines, Bethesda vice president of marketing, was at the live E3 stage show of GameSpot and confirmed that the new “Prey” is entirely unrelated to “Prey 2,” and that there was not a single element included from the latter. However, the theme will still feature aliens wreaking havoc and hunting the main character. The game is being developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.

In “Prey,” players take on the role of Morgan Yu, a subject of weird experiments that were supposed to boost the human race. The setting is in Talos 1 in 2013, where players will discover more secrets within the space station. There will be several abilities, weapons and tools to help survive the alien attacks.

GameSpot noted that Arkane Studios simplified the franchise to the core concept and will rebuild it according to what they think “Prey” should be. Hines said that the first-person action game will not be a horror, but will showcase a psychological element. It will be systems-based, which Arkane is an expert of. Hines continued that Arkane has created a reputation for creating realistic and logical worlds.

Hines added that there is a reason why the space station is built the way that players will find themselves in. They also provided a reason for the alien ecology which will explain the fighting and quest for survival. Players will have a lot of choices in-game although it will not be an open world. Hines said that “Prey” is more like the open-level game, “Dishonored,” an Arkane-developed series which features a lot of freedom to handle situations in various ways.

According to Windows Report, the original “Prey” was launched in 2006, developed by Human Head Studios and published by 2K Games. However, the game was not playable on PlayStation.

Twinfinite wrote that “Prey 2” was announced at E3 2011. Tommy, the main protagonist in the first game, was supposed to reappear. However, the game was canceled by Bethesda in 2014 for failing to reach their quality standards.

During the Bethesda E3 2016 Showcase, they announced that the new “Prey” game will launch sometime in 2017. It will be playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. More updates and details are expected soon.
