Is The 'Gambit' Movie Still Happening? Director Problems Threaten Further Delay In 2017 Planned Release

More issues about the “Gambit” movie recently surfaced after its supposed director, Doug Liman, embarked on another film project. Apparently, the X-Men spin-off film will not be ready in 2016, as originally intended.

Previously, “Gambit” was slated to start filming later in 2016, to continue until early 2017. However, the new issues will most likely push back the release date further, and fans are already concerned that it will never actually be featured.

DenofGeek revealed that Rupert Wyatt was the director who was supposed to direct “Gambit.” He has since exited the project and Doug Liman stepped in as a replacement. However, Liman recently confirmed that he joined the team as director of the new post-apocalyptic thriller, “Chaos Walking.”

He is also working on another project, titled “The Wall.” Liman’s new participation in other projects hinted that the X-Men standalone movie is currently at a standstill. Lim recently finished working on “Mena,” a suspense comedy and has also been developing the thriller “Luna Park.”

The Hollywood Reporter stated that “Chaos Walking” will most likely shoot at around the same time as “Gambit.” If the schedules of the two movies collide, either the X-Men film be delayed again or cancelled altogether, or Liman will no longer be its director. The studio may be looking for another person to helm the project. Marvel has yet to confirm the casting news.

CinemaBlend stated that the character Gambit was created by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee. The mutant was debuted in Marvel Comics in 1990 and has become quite popular as a member of the X-Men. “Gambit” was written by screenwriter Joshua Zetumer, although no details have been confirmed regarding the film plot.

There are speculations that it will most likely be an origin story, following the young Remy LeBeau in New Orleans, Louisiana. Remy was an important member of the Thieves’ Guild and was arranged to marry Bella Donna Boudreaux, granddaughter of the leader of the Assassins’ Guild. However, things went wrong and Gambit is left to pick up the pieces and battle the main villain, who will most likely be Mr. Sinister.

In previous X-Men films, Taylor Kitsch played Gambit. The upcoming project revealed that Channing Tatum will take on the lead role. Originally, the movie was supposed to release on Oct. 7, 2016, but it seems that the movie will not be releasing until sometime in 2017. More updates and details are expected soon.
